AC Milan completes the signing of Villarreal winger Chukwueze

Published:

Samuel Chukwueze, a Nigerian attacker, has signed a five-year contract with AC Milan, it was revealed on Thursday, July 27.

According to Italian media, the 24-year-old has signed a deal with the Rossoneri for roughly 20 million euros ($22 million) plus eight million euros in add-ons.

After Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Noah Okafor, Luka Romero, Tijjani Reijnders, and Marco Sportiello, Chukwueze is the Serie A club’s sixth acquisition of the summer.

Chukwuweze, who is renowned for his speed, dribbling prowess, and capacity for creating opportunities, was selected as the best African player in La Liga last season.

Chukwueze’s ability to carry the ball past opponents means that his teams frequently try to isolate him on the right wing. They drag the opposing defensive formation over by constructing the action on the opposite side, leaving space on the right for the youngster to exploit.

Chukwueze’s offense is built around receiving on the right side before cutting infield. This, paired with his proclivity to fire from distance when he gets to the edge of the box, has prompted many to compare him to Dutchman Arjen Robben.

The Super Eagles star is also proud to have played over 100 times for Villarreal at such a young age.

Since starting his career with the Golden Eaglets, Chukwueze has represented Nigeria at both the World Cup qualifications and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Chkuwueze, who was born on May 22, 1999, in Umuahia, Nigeria, went through the youth division of the Diamond Football Academy before transferring to Villarreal in 2017. He played 20 games and scored four goals with the Spanish club’s B squad before making his senior team debut in September 2018. He went on to play in 207 games, score 37 goals, and won one Europa League under current Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.

Milan has been aiming to bolster their attacks in recent months after a dismal performance last season, and Chukwueze fits their style of play perfectly.

AC Milan has formerly employed various Nigerian players, most notably the combo of Taribo West and Taye Taiwo.
