Before resigning, former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu said that President Bola Tinubu had failed to announce his new ministers because he was conducting extensive consultations.

He said, “The president has just started. And he is doing his extensive consultation before coming up with his nominees for ministers.

“The nomination of the ministers will come first. They will go through their screening until they are pronounced after they have been submitted by Mr. President.

“And Mr. President will formally appoint his ministers and swear them in.

“Only after doing that will he disclose each of them to the country to know which minister is going to which ministry, and how many ministries we are going to have.”

A lot of Nigerians have raised fear and alarm about the President’s cabinet’s delayed creation, particularly because Tinubu told Nigerians following his victory that he would hit the ground running.

He had also pledged genuine government with qualified personnel in different roles across the execution spectrum.

The list arrives two days before the President’s deadline, as provided by the constitution as revised by the Ninth Assembly.

Tinubu, according to the 1999 constitution as modified by the Ninth Senate, has only two days remaining of the 60-day timeframe for the President to disclose his cabinet members.

According to Section 42 of the Constitution, “(a) the nomination of any individual to the office of a Minister should be made within sixty days after the date the President has taken the oath of office for confirmation by the Senate;

(b) women must make up at least 10% of those selected as ministers:

With the condition that the President may name a minister at any other point in his term, and that choice is subject to Senate approval.
